Ozzano Technopole

The Bologna-Ozzano Technopole

Together with similar entities created on a regional basis, it constitutes an important piece of the innovation ecosystem that is taking shape as the outcome of a multi-year strategy supported by significant public investment.
Our Technopole hosts the laboratories of IRET Foundation and also hosts the social enterprise TransMed Research s.r.l., an Assay Center certified by the Italian Ministry of Health for Good Laboratory Practice (Buone Pratiche di Laboratorio).

Following the outcome of the ERDF RP Emilia-Romagna 2014/2020, Axis 1 – Research and Innovation, Action 1.2.1 call for proposals, Eng. Paolo Celli was appointed Manager of the Technopole.

BOZ Technopole RLM 2030: High Tech Lab for Responsible Research and Innovation at the service of diseases “without cure”

Project PG/2023/960898 within the “Call for the expansion of the infrastructure of the Technopoles of the Emilia-Romagna Region,” Action 1.1.4, DGR 661/2023

The intervention expands the facility to approx. 1,400 square meters, including new spaces for laboratories, a single-floor “hexagon” area for events, inspired by the Technopole logo, and one dedicated to cognitive wellness, materializing one of IRET Foundation’s flagship projects. Among the new features is the installation of light sheet microscopy for macroscopic samples, unique in Emilia-Romagna and among the first in Italy.

IRET Foundation is a scientific research organization in the biomedical field, dedicated to the study of diseases “without cure” such as degenerative diseases and injuries of the central nervous system (multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s dementia, vascular dementias, ataxias, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic injuries and vascular lesions of the brain and spinal cord, chronic pain).

It conducts research in the areas of neurology, rare and dysmetabolic diseases, regenerative medicine, drug discovery, development and screening, advanced therapies, and tissue engineering.

IRET Foundation is guided by the principles of Responsible Innovation and Research (RRI) and is actively involved in tackling climate change and promoting the circular economy. Data integrity is a pillar of its approach to research, and internal operational flows are organized based on strict traceability standards. It embraces the principles of “One Health”, promoting integrated research between human and veterinary medicine.

Strong connections on a national and international basis are a pillar of IRET research.
IRET is continuously developing to adapt to increasingly advanced technological standards and focuses on human resources by fostering the professional growth of talented young researchers.
